Our History
In many cultures, names hold profound significance, often telling a tale or setting a person on a destiny path. This belief is particularly strong among the people of Bawku in the Upper East region of Ghana, where the Kusaal dialect is spoken. The name “Sung Biela” resonates deeply in this dialect. “Sung” means “support,” and “Biela,” meaning “modest,” beautifully encapsulates the foundation’s philosophy: “Modest Support.” This name symbolizes the profound impact that even the smallest acts of kindness can have in transforming lives and communities.
The Sung Biela Foundation was founded in 2018 by Hajia Zenabu, whose personal history of overcoming hardship has deeply influenced her commitment to supporting the vulnerable in society. Orphaned at a young age, Hajia Zenabu faced numerous challenges but was supported by compassionate individuals who helped her navigate difficult times. Her experiences instilled in her a strong belief that no act of assistance is too small and that with collective effort, the narrative of the less privileged can be changed.
Inspired by her conviction, Hajia Zenabu established the Sung Biela Foundation to improve“the quality of life for widows, orphans, persons with disabilities, and the elderly in underserved communities. Since its inception, the foundation has been dedicated to providing essential support and bringing hope to those in need, embodying its core philosophy that even a little help can make a significant difference.
